Sin-ming Sit
about

Sin-ming Sit draws mostly on paper in flat and sculptural form, the latter she calls ‘collapsibles’. Her drawings often involve visually fathomed marine habitats, attempts to depict an environment that is ever changing, hard to reach, and largely invisible, but we are unwittingly very much part of it. Sit mainly works with charcoal; a very dry medium one would not directly associate with water. But Sit finds the tonal and expressive range of that one material very suitable to draw underwater sceneries that consists of many unearthly shapes, forms, textures and opacities. Her drawing technique of copious subtractive and additive processes result in works that are still and transient.

CV
Sin-ming Sit (1970s, Enkhuizen, NL) lives and works in Amsterdam. She has had a long career in IT project management at various NGO’s. After a hiatus of nearly 30 years, she picked up drawing again in 2023. And in 2025 she was accepted to join the Amalgam bachelor fine arts programme at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (Netherlands). She currently combines her artistic practice with a bread and butter job at the Netherlands Council for Journalism.
